3rd Annual Plant Sale
Sale
Perennials will include bee balm, several varieties of Hosta, vinca, climbing hydrangea, daisy, catmint, snake root. Annuals consist of marigolds, nasturtiums, pansies and geraniums. Vegetables will include, not limited to, pickling cucumbers, slicing cukes, many varieties of hybrid and heirloom tomatoes, kale, summer squash and zucchini. Additional plant types are anticipated.
FOSH is grateful to members Bruce Beirce, Jon Harker, Gary Phillip, Amanda Sparling plus Ann and Joe Young for their plant contributions.
Speakers
We are pleased to be welcoming four speakers in 2021
- 9:30 a.m. – Mark King of the Maine DEP, the Readfield Transfer Station’s new Composting Program and Maine Composting School will speak on back yard composting.
- 10:30 a.m. – David Handley, PhD, of the U. of Maine Cooperative Extension and a small fruit specialist at Highmoor Farms, will share skills for growing raspberries.
- 12:00 p.m. – Fayette’s own Jean St. Clair will speak about preservation of the fruits of your summer garden labors. Her talk will include methods such as freezing, dehydration and canning. The Readfield Transfer Station is providing a representative to discuss the impact of their new composting grant. And Maine Coop Extension has been asked to teach methods for growing better tomatoes. Vanessa Berry of EcoMaine will share information about the Town’s recycling program and provide giveaways.
Food
Grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, snacks and water will be available for purchase. And we are conducting a Bake Sale!
Vendors
Donna Barrett will be selling rooting jars hanging from beautiful macrame holders. These lovely hangers are also useful as candle holders for battery operated candles. Gary Philips has attractive, practical hand-made wooden bird houses for sale. Your garden, and certainly your feathered friends, will love these little homes. Walston Woodcraft has charming whirligigs and spinners for your yard or garden, and Leslie Grenier will be selling crocheted animals with accompanying story books.
